These chairs, armchairs, benches, desks and tables with their pure lines seduce by their rational architectural construction tempered by a subtle petty of forms and materials. The pieces on display, produced between 1951 and 1966, are a clever blend of Western radicalism and Indian tradition. They show that in addition to being a talented architect to whom we owe, with his illustrious cousin Le Corbusier, some beautiful achievements of modernist spirit, Pierre Jeanneret was also an inspired design of furniture. About thirty of these pieces from official and public buildings in Chandigarh will be presented.
